Elemang Modisane has over 10 years of legal experience. She holds a Master of Laws in Commercial Law (LL.M.) from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and a Master of Laws in International Trade Law (LL.M.) from Stellenbosch University (SU). She graduated from University of Botswana with a Bachelor of Laws.
Prior to establishing the firm, she was an Attorney with one of the leading law firms in Botswana that specialised in corporate and commercial law until July 2021. She possesses vast knowledge and expertise in corporate and commercial law and practice, litigation and advises on business aspects of local and cross-border transactions. Elemang’s practice areas spin several specializations with particular emphasis on Corporate and Commercial Advisory, Regulatory and Compliance, Banking and Finance, Debts and Capital Markets, Intellectual Property as well as Labour and Employment Law.
Elemang has in-depth practice in different transactions and has advised numerous organisations on issues of compliance with different areas of law and statutes such as the Companies Act, Competition Act, Employment Act, NBFIRA Act, Trade Disputes Act, Trade Unions and Employers Act, Workers Compensation Act, Accounts Act and other financial services laws. Elemang heads the Corporate and Commercial Department.
During her Master’s in Commercial Law, Elemang specialised in Advanced Company Law, Competition Law, Advanced Contract Law as well as Intellectual Property Law. For her Master’s in International Trade Law, modules included International Commercial Arbitration, International Sales Law, International Aspects of World and Regional Trade as well as Carriage of Goods by Sea Law.
For the final dissertation, the paper was on “Impacts of sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures on developing countries: a case study of the Botswana beef industry and the European Union Commission.” The paper entailed an in-depth analysis on the theoretical application of the SPS Agreement under the World Trade Organisation on developing countries specifically Botswana as well as compliance by the said developing countries.
